![]() ![]() Underneath the name of your Slack Team and your own username, you’ll see a section called Channels in the sidebar. This Slack FAQ page offers more info about stars. This is useful as you Slack grows and there are more and more people and groups to talk to or keep an eye on but some are more important than others. Stars essentially allow for pinning of a channel or chat so that it's easily visible and accessible. You can also star messages in Slack so you can easily come back to them later. You can star channels or direct messages to move them to the top of your left sidebar. Stars are a way to mark an item in Slack as important. Starred conversationsĮverything you've starred will appear above the Channels section and below your team name and username in the sidebar. This Slack FAQ page offers more info about notifications. If there's a channel that you find is particularly busy and regularly disturbs you but you don't need to follow constantly then you can right click and click to mute that channel on its own. To get to those settings, open the channel you want to adjust, then click the name of it at the top of the screen, and select Channel notification preferences. ![]() Tip: Do note, though, that Slack shares your entire screen, so be sure to only have things open that you want to share with your team when you start sharing your screen in Slack.Each channel even has individual notification preferences, for instance. You can't let others control your screen, but at least that can help simplify giving feedback during a call. ![]() Click the single pencil icon to turn on a pen you can use to markup your screen, or click the multiple pencil icon to let others markup your screen. A small toolbar will show overlaid on your screen while the screencast is ongoing. Then, Slack will share your entire screen with your team. On Macs, you may first have to allow Slack to record your screen follow the instructions in the Slack popup to do that. To share your screen, click the screen icon in the middle of the set of buttons. Click the phone icon in any Slack channel or direct message conversation to start a call-which in Slack, calls are audio-only by default, with a camera button to click to start a video call.
